The Club des Professionnels du Transport Québec (Quebec Club of Transport Professionals) was founded in 1947 under the name Motor Truck Club Limited. The first president was Weir Wright.
During the initial years of the Club, everything was in English: all of the activities, correspondence, meeting minutes and even the membership cards. However, because of the presence of so many French-speaking members, the official language of the Club was changed to French in 1964 under the presidency of Bernard Gravel.
Through the years, the Club also adapted to our ever-changing society. While the Club was originally intended for men only, over time, more and more women began to join. Diane Messier was the first woman to occupy a seat on the Board of Directors, early in the decade of 2000. Later, in 2011, Raymonde Legendre, who had previously been a member of the Steering Committee, became the Club’s first woman president.
The Club’s openness and willingness to change has been the key to its longevity. Even today, it remains popular and demonstrates its spirit of innovation with the introduction of a new website and an active presence in various social media—an absolute must in this day and age.
After more than 70 years, the CPTQ is still going strong, giving members the opportunity to create a vast network of contacts, fostering the growth of numerous companies in the transport industry, including carriers and suppliers, in the metropolitan region and surrounding areas.
